I use two different methods to produce my items of jewellery - traditional silversmithing using sterling silver (925) and also using precious metal clay which is fine silver (999).
My nature inspired designs are created using silver clay which is made from recycled fine silver particles. By using this soft pliable recycled silver clay, I minimise waste while capturing the essence of nature's beauty in delicate forms.
Once I’ve created my design the clay is dried prior to firing off the organic material.
This attention to detail ensures that every piece maintains its natural charm while echoing the harmony between my designs and the wonders of the nature that surrounds me.
UNDERSTANDING HALLMARKS YOUR ASSURANCE OF QUALITY
A hallmark is a small mark on your jewellery that guarantees authenticity and quality. When you see a hallmark on your silver piece, you know it's made from the precious metal the seller describes in their design details.
Hallmarks are a series of marks, often found on the inside of rings or on the clasp of necklaces. It indicates the purity of the metal, the maker's mark, the Assay Office where the piece was tested and marked, and the year of marking but only items weighing 7.78gms need to be Hallmarked so don’t worry if smaller items don’t have a mark.
What does my marking look like:
Sponsors Mark - JMP in a cartouche
Fineness Mark - This depends on the alloy, 925 for sterling silver and 999 for fine silver
Assay Mark - The Edinburgh assay office so it’s a castle symbol
In short, a hallmark is your assurance that the silver jewellery you're taking home is not only precious and compliant with metal purity laws but also a piece of craftsmanship held to the highest standards giving you the confidence that you’re getting what you paid for and that it's crafted from the finest precious metal.
